Bella Market has a Dress Code!

But you already knew that, right? Every year at Silver Bella we dress up a little (or a lot) on Friday night during Bella Market. We've had several themes in the past like: pajama party, vintage cowgirl, and bella prom. Everyone enjoys this evening so much! Here's the theme for this year:

100apronscard

I hope you will embrace 100 Aprons in true Bella style! I previously hinted at a "Stardust" theme, but am changing it, because this just seems like so much fun. Maybe you will wear a half apron, or a full one apron...maybe it'll be found at your favorite antique store or boutique, or maybe it will be made by you.

100apronscontest_edited-1

100 Aprons allows for creativity in many shapes and sizes. If you like, enter yours in one of these fun contests and win prizes! Here are the categories, so you can be thinking, planning and creating:

Vintage

Old, weathered and adorned aprons!

or

Kitschy

Colorful, sweet, and spirited aprons!

or

Glam

Cocktail party style, glitz and starstruck aprons!

Vendor Applications!

Did you know that Bella Market is one of the biggest highlights of Silver Bella? Oh, just ask any former students and they will surely tell you, with a sparkle in their eye, how enchanting Bella Market truly is!

Vendorbooth

Vendors and artisans from all over the country come together on this evening to showcase their wares just for Silver Bella! The theme only adds to the fun...but more on that later. Today, I am happy to announce that vendor applications and information is available to those who are interested in selling at Bella Market. If you are interested in applying, email me at: tmcfayden@cox.net. An application will be emailed to you.

Please know that applications will be available until the space is filled, and there have been numerous inquires since January, so I recommend you apply timely.

Be prepared to submit your application and your site or photos of your work.

With all of this talk about Bella Market, I'm getting excited for that magical evening already! Bella Market is Friday, November 13!

May 01, 2009

So, you want to be a vendor?

You are one smart cookie! This year's Silver Bella Market Faire promises to be an exciting one, filled with artisans and dealers from all over the country!

Life is pretty busy here for me, but I know it is for you, too. SO, I wanted to let all of those wanting to be a part of Bella Market, Friday, November 13, that information on vendor opportunities will be available here on:

TUESDAY, MAY 12

So, on that day, I will put a post about it here, and those of you who think you've got what it takes will email me on that day and request an application. And between now and then you will be thinking about what wares you plan to bring, and how many tables you need, or if you need a booth, etc. Sound good? Yes! :)

Spotlight on two Workshops

" A picture says a thousand words. "

Pardon me for changing my mind a little, but two of the photos of Workshops have been revised. I think I cropped the photos "too" much and wanted to show different views to help folks get the full picture and vision of what the Artists are expressing.

#1: WONDERLAND MOBILE, with CHARLOTTE LYONS

Sb09lyonsmobile

See the houses? See the trees? See the ribbons sparkles and pearls? Layers of felt, fabric and paper and embellishments. A plethora of all things whimsy and holiday. This would be a fabulous mobile for a sweet girls bedroom (all winter long) or suspended from evergreen boughs...don't you think? I'd love to do that over my kitchen sink "nook". If you took any of Charlott'es Holiday Home Tour Workshops in 2007 or 2008, then this is the perfect continuation of her themed homes. Love that. Isn't she clever?

#2: SILVER SACRED HEART by Denise Sharp

Sb09sharpheartfull

If you don't know Denise, then you just don't know. In my book of definitions I refer to her as the mistress of beautiful paper projects. She cuts and folds and fans and builds the most amazing things from gorgeous paper.

Her aesthetic is timeless. This box is the perfect representation of her love of paper manipulation.  I say it's a Milagros. Great to put love notes or affirmation inside the box. I will put my Denise Sharp Silver Sacred Heart with my collection of Milagros. And when people say, "Wow, did you make that?" I'll smile and say "Yes! At Silver Bella."

A Note from the Silver Desk...

Thanks to all of you who registered last night and are still registering for Silver Bella today! Thank you times ten! It's an overwhelming great feeling to know that you have chosen to be a part of this Event, and you take your artistic endeavors seriously...and have chosen to express yourselves at Silver Bella. I'm truly in awe in looking at all of the orders...such a fantastic line up students coming! All I can say is Omaha is going to be THE place to be in November!!!

Anyhoo...I did want to mention a concern you may have. Just to clarify things. If you registered for Silver Bella, upon completion of your transaction you will receive an order confirmation from Paper Bella Studio. It will be emailed to the email you used when you registered. That is your peace of mind...it means you got into the workshops you registered for.

If you did not receive an order confirmation from Paper Bella Studio, but you have a PayPal receipt, then perhaps you paid with an echeck. When the echeck clears you will receive an order confirmation from Paper Bella Studio.

Hope that clear things up a little for everyone.

People have been emailing...nearly fainting....bless your hearts...giddy, skipping....and still wanting me to tell them they are indeed registered. Love it. (I'd probably see the same way if the tables were turned!)

April 13, 2009

Registration is now open!

Sb09homepage It's been hopping and bopping on the registration website! Better get back over there...chow for now!

You Got Questions? I Got Answers.

Sbqanda While the website is coming to life, Silver Bella style, I thought I would add some answers to questions here! I forget what a job that is...and we admittedly surrendered to contacting the big guns for some help instead of spinning in circles!

So... EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT *SILVER BELLA* But Were Afraid to Ask...

Who attends Silver Bella?

Actually, there is a wide range of attendees. You'll find age ranges from 21-60 in attendance. You find new to intermediate to advanced artists and crafters...who create as a hobby or for a living-or both. You will find store owners seeking inspiration for their businesses, designers, teachers seeking the fresh techniques and ideas for classes in their hometowns, lots of friends in small or large groups, mothers and daughters spending a weekend together, sisters doing the same, mothers attending while families visit Omaha, even entrepreneurs promoting themselves or young businesses. You will find lots of fellowship and interacting, and a whole lot of inspiration under the hat of each of the above described!

Silver Bella has always drawn the most generous and giving and artful people. It's true! Ask any former attendees and they will tell you the same!

I've never been to Silver Bella, but would love to come. Will I fit in?

Some people come as a retreat for themselves, but all people fit in. You already have one thing in common with everyone there...a love of creating! Upon registering, you can join the message boards where you will have the opportunity to meet others. Join in on swaps of ALL shapes and sizes, find roomies if you like, etc.

My husband/family may be traveling with me. Are there things nearby they could do while I am attending workshops/functions?

Omaha is a very family friendly city. We have the famous Henry Doorly Zoo  just ten minutes from our hotel. That is easily an all day adventure. Returning Zoo lovers...there is a new Skyfari lift where you can ride a ski-lift across several areas of the zoo! There are several museums within blocks of our hotel, too. Check out the hotel's website for a long list of activities in the downtown area. Across The Missouri River (which our hotel is beside) are several casinos for the hubbies. The Old Market area (where the hotel is located) is filled with boutiques, great local and national restaurants, Con Agra Park, and more. If the weather permits, I recommend a walk along the brand new Bob Kerry Pedestrian Bridge. Have you ever walked across water? Jees...you can in Omaha!

Will there be a payment plan offered for registration?

Yes. Silver Bella is happy to provide a payment plan. This year we are trying something new. You will have an option of registering for $520 and making the payment in full, or, putting a deposit down of $300 now and then $250 due Saturday, August 1. There is no grace period, and if payment is not made by August 1, your initial installment will be lost and your workshops will be put back into the inventory. Notice that paying in full give you a $30 savings. All payments are non-refundable. These will be options will be on the website in the registration section.

What issue was the Silver Bella article in Country Living Magazine?

You can find the Silver Bella article in the November, 2008 issue of Country Living. In the centerfold!

Can I apply to be a Vendor?

Yes! In mid May I will announce here when the Vendor Applications are available. There are several types of vendors at Silver Bella...local artisans, far away artisans...some are attendees helping offset their registration costs, some own stores online or are actual brick and mortar.

Once an application and payment for space is received, you will be advised within two weeks of date the application is accepted.

If you are interested in applying to be a Silver Bella Vendor, you can be thinking between now and then about you can offer at your table or booth.

Is there a theme to The Bella Market on Friday night?

Yes! There is a small clue revealed on the website. Last year was a vintage prom theme. So pretty! More information soon on this year's theme! EDIT: Yes you can guess or leave an idea in the comments. I'd love to read them and am open to changes!

Can I use the Silver Bella logo in my artwork?

For personal use, yes. For profit, no. Silver Bella is copyrighted. If you are interested in using the Silver Bella name or logo for profit, email me to obtain a release of licensing.

Do I need to rent a car during my stay?

That depends on what your plans are! A shuttle will take you from the airport to the hotel (10 minutes to go 2 miles...you know how it is) and The Embassy Suite shuttle will also take you or your group about the downtown area. They have always been very generous about that. If you plan on going farther west in town, I would recommend a cab or begging a local to take you somewhere. Village Pointe Outdoor Shopping Center is 17 miles west of The Embassy Suites. Regency indoor mall is small mall about 10 miles away...Anthropologie is there.

There are so many shops and dining places across the street from The Embassy Suites. You will find more than enough to keep you busy during your down time right across the street! Second Chance Antiques, Mike's Salvage, Fairmont Antiques, The Passageway and so much more.

The Upstream Brewing Co. has been a favorite for Bellas for years now. The French Cafe and Delice Eurpoean Bakery are other favorites.

Who will the Guest Speaker be for The Bella Luncheon this year?

She will be announced on the website and she's a peach! :)

Thank you so much for all of your questions and enthusiasm about Silver Bella! It's great to read and feel all of the excitement already! EDIT: Nope, it's not me. But thanks for calling me a peach!

Hey, no question is too big or too small. Feel free to email me at: tmcfayden@cox.net.

VINTAGE CHARM BRACELET  with Kaari Meng

Sb09mengbracelet

Filled with old glass beads and baubles, this bracelet is the perfect place to start if you have never made jewelry before.  The charm bracelet class will begin with an introduction to the basics of beading: we will learn to use three tools, cutting pliers, needle nose pliers and flat nose pliers; how to open and close jump rings properly; how to set or glue cabachons into bezels; and how to thread
and loop beads with head pins.  Students will work from a special bracelet kit, which will include everything you need to make a vintage charm bracelet.

Students bring: No other supplies are necessary. Tool, glue and all supplies are provided for you.

Vintage Rosary Necklace  with Kaari Meng

Sb09mengnecklace

The rosary necklace workshop is all about repetition, religious medals and repentance.  In this class, we will learn the basics about jewelry pliers and how to use them, how to attach jump rings, how to make a rosary chain linked out of beads and eye pins, and how to set cabachons into bezels.  Students will work from a necklace kit, which will include everything you need to make a vintage rosary necklace, in signature classic French General style.

Student Supplies: All materials and tools included.

EPHEMERA BIRD   with D. Sharp

Sb09sharpbird

“I hope you like birds too. It is economical. It saves going to heaven.” I almost always reflect on these words by Emily Dickinson when I take the time to pause and appreciate the sights and sounds of the birds around me. A little starling brings an irrepressible smile; a crow’s cleverness engages me. I am equally fascinated with specimens that one may find in a ‘cabinet of natural curiosities’, and I created this bird to be housed under one of my glass bell jars.
With a dimensional body made with a mache form, stuffing and paper clay, this bird is feathered in crepe and patterned papers reproduced from my ephemera collection. And doesn’t it seem fitting that a paper bird’s beak is actually a calligraphy pen nib?
In this workshop, materials will be provided to create your very own feathered friend, including  the body form and head, templates for the bird form and feathers and a variety of papers. Students may wish to bring there own vintage paper ephemera, patterned paper or art paper to use
To facilitate the process, I will provide students with pre-made heads and legs as well as instructions for creating them. We will be making our bird self standing on the table, but if you wish to have it on a stand, you may choose to attach it later to one you have or you may choose to pre-order one through me which I will bring to class.
Students need to bring a basic tool kit, hot glue gun, scotch tape, bone folder, small scissors, metal ruler with cork backing, an exacto knife, small cutting mat, small needle nose pliers, small paintbrush for glue and any additional papers or embellishments that they may want to use.

I can’t wait to see the whole flock!

SACRED SILVER HEART   with D. Sharp

Sb09sharpheartfull

The heart is a potent symbol that can convey the spiritual, the intellectual and the emotional - a universal emblem that can communicate many different sentiments of love, from the blithe to the sacred. The ubiquitous heart shape box, most often seen at Valentine’s, can be transformed in an equal array of styles. I have a tradition of creating a heart box for my husband every year, each one different from the last, and each year I have more fun than the last creating it.
Drawing inspiration from religious imagery and antiquities, we will create a sacred heart box more stunning than any old Valentine chocolate box. Fashioned from silver papers, with delicate pleated rays and a unique tapered form - with a bit of ribbon it can be transformed into an ornament for the tree.
All materials will be provided to create our project heart, but students may choose to bring any coordinating silver paper they want to use, or if they wish to make the heart a different color, card stock and 2 coordinating papers. In addition to our sacred heart, students will be provided with a template to make other heart boxes as well as instructions for a variety of other techniques to adorn them, including an embossed velvet top, paper and glitter embellishments  and using vintage book covers for material. I will bring a sampling of heart shape boxes created with these techniques for future inspiration. Students will also come away with a simple box making technique that can be applied to creating boxes of all different shapes.

Students need to bring a basic tool kit, hot glue gun, scotch tape, bone folder, 2 double stick adhesive sheets { Terrifically Tacky makes a 6 X 8 sheet}, metal ruler with cork backing, an X-acto knife, small cutting mat, small paintbrush for glue and any additional papers they may want to use.

LINEAGE OF LOVE   with Pam Garrison

Sb09garrisonlineagepeek

We'll make a lovely garland using photos of your loved ones or adopted ancestors (I've used both here). I'll share some photos, you bring some special family photos (bonus points for sepia or black and white) or your own adopted ancestors, and we'll decorate them using scraps of ribbon, findings, buttons, and other bits and bobs (you bring some and I'll bring lots to share ) so we can embellish away. Then we will wire wrap them together to form a seasonal strand that will add some magic to your holiday celebrations. You can stand this on a mantle, tuck it in a tree, drape from a cabinet, wire from side to side in a frame...the display options are endless for this decorated celebration of family and the holidays.

Bring to Class: family photos, (you can attach to mat board ahead of time or wait until class), some adopted ancestor cabinet cards if you'd like, X-acto knife if you have one, Cropodile (or hole punch or Japanese screw punch (if you already have one), personal embellishments such as: jewelry findings, buttons, scraps of ribbon, watch pieces, little words on paper/sayings, embroidery thread and needle, jewelry tools (round needle nose and flat plier type) if you already have them, if not we'll share.

HOLLY DAYS COUNTDOWN WREATH   with Pam Garrison

Sb09garrisonwreath

We'll shake up the traditional advent calendar concept, creating an ever-growing wreath, all while keeping the traditional elements of felt, fabric, sequins, buttons (included) in our new advent calendar wreath. We'll do some simple stitching, learn a few new stitches (no previous stitching experience necessary!), and assemble an evergreen wreath,  sampler style. You'll leave the class with a wonderful twist on the old classic advent calendar: a wreath created by you for your loved ones to count down the days in Bella style!
Bring to Class: one 10" styrofoam wreath (1 1/2" thick), a little embellishment goodie bag with a few special treasures like buttons and beads and small jewelry bits, tiny ribbon scraps, an embroidery needle (or two- different sizes) and 3 skeins of embroidery floss in your favorite holiday colors. I will bring various styles and colors of fabric strips to choose from to wrap your wreath, but you may prefer to bring  your own fabric scraps that you love, one that matches your "style" and holiday home decor better. If so, tear it in 2" strips and bring at least 3 yards in length. I will also be providing felt in the colors above, but again, if you prefer others, just grab a few felt squares of your preferred colors.

CIGAR BOX ASSEMBLAGE   with Rebecca Sower

Sb09sowerblocks

Join us as we turn an old cigar box into a lovely masterpiece.  The focal point of this art project is the center wooden block assemblage that we will dress up and bring together to create visual interest.  We will be learning several techniques using paints, glues, beads and more in this workshop.  You will leave with your own unique work of art ready to display in your home.

Please bring your own cigar box (6x8” or larger).  Other materials will be provided, but you are welcome and encouraged to add your own buttons, beads, ephemera and findings if you’d like.

HODGE PODGE JOURNAL   with Rebecca Sower

Sb09sowerjournal

Whether you are a journal keeper or not, you won’t want to miss this class where we will create from scratch one of my popular hodge-podge journals.  We will begin with the detailed cover and then fill the journal with your selection of papers and pages.  Create yours as uniquely as you like.  The finished product will be an album or journal chock-full of papers, pockets, flaps and folds.  All perfect for capturing your thoughts, quotes, photos and secrets.

All materials will be provided for this class, but you are welcome to bring any ‘extras’ that you may want to include in your book.
